Chantal Cowie was an administrative and communications intern in the tourism department of Southern Ambition Africa, located in Cape Town, South Africa, for approximately two months during the summer of 2015.

During this time, Chantal proved that she was a hard-working self-starter who was always contributing to the team with her creativity. She joined Southern Ambition Africa during a time when a plethora ofmarketing material, website copy, and general brainstorming was needed, ahead of another busy semester of working with exchange students at University of Cape Town. With very little guidance or direction, she was creating some great content for our orientation marketing materials and blog posts for the company. I have read multiple blogs from students discussing their experiences and lessons learnt from studying and living abroad- but Chantal’s is still my favorite!

On the interpersonal side, Chantal has superior written and verbal communication skills. She got along extremely well with everyone on the team. She was always very friendly to both her co-workers and any client that walked through the door, easily calling upon her own experience as an exchange student in order to determine the client’s needs and find a solution.

Chantal was able to quickly grasp the fundamentals of how our company runs. She learned about the company very quickly, immersing herselfin all aspects. Her curiosity and motivation to learn about our company extended far past her duties and responsibilities, making her one of our more ambitious interns.

I have been honored to work with Chantal in a managerial capacity when she served as the senior product specialist at ShareASale. I worked with her till she accepted a deserved promotion into client services /management team.

During her tenure on my team, Chantal displayed a strong capacity for customer service, organization/planning, and team building / training.

During her time as the senior product specialist, Chantal excelled in all of the aspects of customer service and client retention. Her role, which contained front line customer support elements, threw a gamut of client personality types and agendas at her of the course of her day-to-day. Chantal would rise to the challenge and persevere through the triumphs and challenges of customer management, applying calm and speaking with confidence to educate and assist our client base.

Beyond her core competency with customer service, Chantal demonstrated her value to the ShareASale organization by stepping up to organize and drive a cross-team project to clean up and modernize ShareASale’s predefined replies. She was able successfully draw resources from multiple teams, distribute the work, collect and manage the editing of results for final use with clients. Chantal is definitely an organizer and a planner who can keep people on task.

As the senior member of the client services team, Chantal took on the task of training two product specialists hired onto the team. She was able to successfully pass her knowledge, training two highly regarded members of the ShareASale organization who have also gone on to grow their responsibly within the organization. I think it was during training that I saw Chantal really grow. In what was one of her first experiences as a trainer, she came to me with concerns about how one of the new members of the team was not paying attention to instant message suggestions on addressing the client’s concerns and just powering through the conversation without giving correct information. We discussed a strategy and talking points on how to address this with the new employee in a peer-to-peer approach.

Chantal was able to take this these talking points and apply them to wild success allowing her to successfully train the employee and giving her confidence in her leadership skills. Chantal’s skillset of customer service, organization, and team building/training make her an ideal addition to any company looking to hire soft-skill strong workers.
